The Girl Effect

image
"The Girl Effect is a MOVEMENT. It's about about ending poverty. And it's about doing so by investing in

girls. Learn. Explore. And Get Involved. I dare you."

-The Girl Movement

At this year's annual World Bank meeting, artists from all over the world came and created art exhibits to showcase how powerful girls really are.
Check this one out:

We here at KIAFRIKA love it! A\nd we love their formula even more:

The math is simple: Girls + Girl Champions = Something Way Bigger Than All Of Us

Its infectious! Learn more about the Girl Effect at www.girleffect.org and join the movement at www.facebook.com/girleffect."

  1. I discovered this in an english assignment. We're supposed to show both sides of an organization - the good and the bad - in our paper. This requirement is a problem for me because, in my research on The Girl Effect, I have been able to find nothing negating the importance of this organization! These people are taking an ugly situation and turning it into a beautiful mural of opportunity for women in developing countries.

  2. Hello Kelsey! That is true! It is definitely not easy to find a negative impact in something that does not just affect communities, but also actively plays a role in each of these individuals' lives. Self growth and empowerment is one of the key factors to this organisation and that is what tends to be amiss with most community development programs. It is often said "when you educate a girl, you educate a community" and this domino effect is what we admire most, that it does not stop at a few individuals. Art is often left on the back burner when it comes to community development, and this is a perfect example of how art has worked towards making a change and bridging the gap between the destitute communities and those that are working towards helping them.
